Johannesburg Park Station is the central railway hub of Johannesburg—and the largest in Africa—located between the CBD and Braamfontein on Rissik Street.
It began in 1889 as “Park Halt,” a modest tin‑shed stop on the Boksburg–Braamfontein line, part of the NZASM’s Rand Steam Tram. A grand station replaced it in 1932, designed by Gordon Leith, accommodating surging traffic tied to the gold‑rush era.
Rebuilt in 1946, it now serves commuter, long‑distance, and Gautrain services, cementing its role as Johannesburg’s transport nerve centre - marking its evolution from a symbol of division to one of unity and urban vitality.
